Skin Care: Summer Edition

Summer skin care

During the summer months skin care is especially important. We expose ourselves to the sun more during the summer, thus we expose ourselves to harmful UVA & UVB rays. Now I’m not trying to sound like a crazed anti-sun crusader. In fact it’s healthy to get sun – rays from the sun are a great source of vitamin D – and who doesn’t love a day at the beach. However, it is important to have fun in the sun in a healthy & safe manner. So if you are out, please use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 & make sure you have a shaded are to escape to.

But if you do get a bit more pink than tan (shit happens) then you want to sooth & hydrate your skin. I love Herbivore Botanicals ‘After Sun.’ It’s a face mist – although it can be used all over – that calms irritated skin with aloe vera, mint & lavender. Personally I use it every time I’m out in the sun for a long time, even if I don’t get burnt.

Now about what I use on my skin on a daily basis. I use a CC cream as my primary foundation. I’m a fan of Chanel‘s CC cream. Not only does it cover incredibly well, but it’s loaded with anti-aging & antioxidant goodness. Bonus, it has SPF 50!

Lotion is another beauty/skincare staple. I actually don’t use lotion every day. I’m not a fan of the feeling of it on my skin (weird I know). Most lotions do contain SPF, so if I’m running around then I’ll put some on. ┬áThis one by Kiehl’s is actually the Mr.’s – I use it from time to time, shhhh don’t tell. He likes it because despite it’s high SPF content, it’s not that greasy. Also he has really sensitive skin & it doesn’t bother him.

I have naturally really dry lips. I have tried countless lip balms & most only work for a few hours, or dry out my lips further. I have been using Chanel‘s lip balm for about a year now & it does a great job of keeping my lips hydrated.
